The company who wrote TrackBallWorks is Dritek System Inc. With the SlimBlade Pro, which Kensington. I'm not sure how many people know this but Kensington contracts out the MouseWorks software and the vendor has changed a couple of times over the past fifteen years. Kensington’s new version of its SlimBlade trackball mouse has a big improvement over the original model: wireless connectivity. That version is called "TrackBallWorks" and updates the driver but did not have any user interface for assigning buttons. Microsoft Update pushed the new driver about four or five weeks ago. This is for software that hasn't been updated since July of 2011. A software fix was projected for the "first quarter of 2013". Their solution? "Don't restart your computer". Two weeks of on-again off-again replies finally led to the revelation that a software fix was necessary. Even though they were already aware of the problem, they required 4 screenshots of "About This Mac" panes uploaded to their site BEFORE they would even talk to me. If the chording function is not activated, the individual buttons will work as normal. 2.2.11 3 chording functions to understand: 1. Fix left button stuck issue which allows users to swap left and right buttons and assign combination keys. Now, they have enabled a byzantine anti-support system that is outsourced to India. Non-English usernames were not saving button settings. Several years ago I could reach a knowledgeable tech person by phone in 5 minutes. I could only get my preferences back by opening the Trackball preference pane, an annoying chore at launch. I recently did a Clean Install of ML, and from the get-go my preferences for my Expert Mouse Trackball were "forgotten" after a restart. Sorry to say that TrackballWorks is incompatible with Mountain Lion for me.
